Position of your client when having permanent make-up procedures on the face..

Would you do your own cosmetic makeup lying flat on your back and holding a mirror above you? You are likely to say "no". Then , my next question is, why do most of you perform your permanent makeup procedures like this? This is the main reason that there are so many mistakes made.  When the face is in repose, such as during sleep, the muscles relax and  facial lines are not so obvious.  Therefore, only when the client is in a semi-reclining position as she should be when you are doing her permanent makeup, will you be able to place your permanent makeup in the right place.  Think about it! Better still, try it!

Lovely having Tina with me today on the 10th day of her cosmetic and medical training for permanent makeup  The Asian model she worked with this morning was so happy.  She has vitiligo and has been modelling for my advanced level students on a regular basis.  The results are very rewarding BUT no one should attempt this type of work WITHOUT having taken an approved training course.

MISTAKES IN MEDICAL TATTOOING

                                             

Medical tattooing should only be attempted if the Technicians is trained in medical and camouflage tattooing.
If a client has a large white patch on their skin, don't tattoo it all in one colour otherwise you will have a pink patch instead of a white one. Look "outside the box" into the surrounding area of skin and copy it. Can you see freckles, in different sizes? Red spots? Thread veins? If so mimic them. Try and make the tattooed area match the rest of the ski. Hopefully, both you and your client will be amazed at the results.

1.) If there is a pronounced VERMILION BORDER, do not tattoo on it or above it.
2.) Do not tattoo a white or skin tone line around the lips. If the client has a laser at a later date, the lip line is     likely to turn black.
3.) If your clients have a lot of wrinkles above the top lip, or underneath the lower lip, fill them in with Vaseline before you start tattooing. This will prevent the pigment from spreading into them.
4.) If a client has a natural blue tint to the lips, do not use a pigment containing blue, such as FUSHIA.  Keep the colour bright and with an orange base.
5.) Do not be persuaded to use fashion colours. Lips can be a few shades darker then the natural colour, but must be the same TONE. This will allow the client to apply lipstick according to fashion trends, if she wants to. If the tattooed colour is too dark the colour will be restrictive.

THE BENEFITS OF TRAINING IN YOUR OWN COUNTRY

                               

Why do so many technicians think they will get a better treatment in the USA? They then come back with anesthetics that are illegal to use in the UK. Often, the training is poor because it is either too short or there are too many student in a class, i feel very sorry for clients who believe they are paying for an efficient technician. Then they have to pay for a correction or removal. When will people learn that there are some excellent trainers in the UK who offer ongoing support?

AEROLA TATTOOING ON POST-MASTECTOMY PATIENTS

                             

When tattooing the aerola onto the breast, if the breasts are flat because there is not a reconstructed nipple, here is a trick you can use to give the appearance of a nipple.
Once you have created the aerola, put two or three drops of navy blue into the remaining pigment. Apply it underneath where the nipple should be, in a horseshoe shape. This trick of light and shade will give a three dimensional effect, making it look as though the nipple is protruding.  

DENTAL BLOCK BEFORE LIP TATTOOING?

                                             



This is a definite  NO! In the earlier days a lot of clients would visit their dentist before treatment. We now don't allow it. One reason being that the antithetic can cause the pigment to migrate leaving very light patches of colours in some areas and none at all in others. Also, the lips will go white due to the dental block, leaving it very difficult for a correct and even colour to be achieved.

Remember :- If a client asks you to make her lips larger by tattooing outside the natural lip line, the pigment has to be the same colour as the lips. IF THE CLIENT HAS A PRONOUNCED VERMILLION BORDER YOU CANNOT TATTOO ON IT OR ABOVE IT.

Remember that black, blue or green used for eyeliner are very likely to migrate creating a bruised look around the eyes. There are now many more law suits for permanent make up by clients who are not happy. Asking them to sign a "disclaimer" does not work. YOU are the professional NOT the client! It is your PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY to know the correct shape and colour required for your clients. REMEMBER :- A DISCLAIMER IS NOT VALID IN THE LAW COURTS.    

It has been brought to my attention that a few trainers teaching in the UK are still importing anaesthetics from other countries. These are illegal in the UK as they are not licensed.  Can I remind everyone please that we are only permitted to use topical anaesthetics that are available to purchase at a UK pharmacy, online or over the counter.  Most  of the trainers that I am referring to are coming into the country to train students and are not professional enough to check out our government regulations. Caution is advised

Caution is advised when considering accepting these types of clients:-

1. Those who are on multiple medications
2. Those who are on any antidepressants or mood-altering medications
3. People who are out of work either by choice or by unfortunate circumstances 
4. Beauty marks (out of date)
5. Recent botox and fillers (within 2 weeks)
6. People that believe that they are the expert and give you instructions on how best to work!
7. People who cannot make up their mind 
8. People that do not want it to "show"

Remember it is not just how well you do your work, But how well you understand your client!

A note for UK practitioners

Will technicians in the UK please note that the last person to work on a client is likely to be the one taken to court in the case of a legal dispute. So consider very very carefully whether you want to attempt to correct someone else's work

Those of you amazed at all the so called "new techniques" on the eyes that are being posted, don't do it! . For example, butterfly eye shadow, and eyeliner.  If the pigment doesn't leave the skin  (and there is no guarantee that it will) what will the client look like in a few years time?  Blue will always migrate in the skin, and your clients will likely end up with 2 black eyes. Remember some of us have been doing permanent makeup for 20 - 30 years, and when we were young and wanted to experiment, we also tried all these techniques.  They did not work, and fortunately we were not a suing-conscious society then. It is a very different story today. I have Expert Witness statements from lawyers arriving on my desk every day, all from clients suing technicians for bad work.  Many of you reading this will know who you are!

Today's "Fashion" of using single needles for fine hairstrokes may turn into tragedy in the future because as the pigments separate inside the skin over time the hairstroke brows will become powdered brows.

     If the pigment doesn't stay in, it is likely to be one of the following reasons:-                                                                                  

1.  You are going to fast
2. You are using the wrong needle
3. You are inserting the needle at the wrong angle
4. The pigment is too diluted and thin.

The ONLY removal which is safe for everyone to use is salt however, it has to be a certain type of salt, applied in a certain routine. NOT normal table salt. There is a removal and lightening gel available for many years which works very well but should NOT be used around the eyes. It can only be supplied to those who have completed a training course on the correct use of this gel.

 Never tattoo white into the skin.
The new fad of white around the lips and above the eyeliner will end up a disaster in a few months as fashions change.

 It is wrong to put white in pigment to lighten. It will turn either pink or orange. It will darken if exposed to laser.

 For examples of this and other work gone wrong just have a quick search on Google for permanent  make up gone wrong.

Removal techniques for permanent make up and small body art tattoo's

This industry is not at present regulated in the UK and consequently the influx of inexperienced technicians, most of whom inappropriately and misguidedly call themselves 'Masters'. The number of unhappy clients seeking correction or removal treatment, is increasing at an alarming rate.
Dawn Cragg MBE is so concerned about this, that she now includes removal and correction technique on her foundation course.
Dawn feels that if her students are shown why treatments go wrong, and taught under her one-to-one direction, they are less likely to make these mistakes themselves.
Dawn's own students are also taught the use of a herbal removal gel which has been available for years but now is only available to technicians trained by Dawn Cragg herself.
One of her biggest concerns is the moment is the craze for salt removal where trainer and technicians do not realise that they should NOT use normal table salt because it contains additives.
Dawn has had dozens of phone calls already this week, who have had an incorrect procedure and now have a white halo on their eyebrows.
